Keeping Children Safe

Keeping our children safe

At Sparkwell All Saints Primary School we strongly recognise the need for vigilant awareness of safeguarding issues. All staff have received appropriate training and induction so that they understand their roles and responsibilities and are confident about carrying them out. Staff, pupils, parents and governors feel secure that they can raise any issues or concerns about the safety or welfare of children and know that they will be listened to and taken seriously. This is achieved by maintaining an ethos of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. At our school we are not afraid to challenge each other to keep our children safe.

We all have a safeguarding responsibility and have a duty to refer any safeguarding issues to external agencies that need to be involved. We operate with the knowledge that 'it could happen here'.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for our school is Francesca McLoughlin

The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead for our school is Jenny Sparkes

Reporting to Social Services

If you have a concern about a child's safety, anyone can report this. If the child lives within Devon contact details can be found here. If the child lives within Plymouth the details are here.

Anyone can also find advice and support, including how to refer a concern at the NSPCC website. The website is here.

We are signed up to Project Encompass. This scheme has been designed to provide early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that might have an impact on a child that attends their school. The safeguarding lead will receive a call or an email from the police to say they attended a call where a pupil was present, where possible on the next working day.
We use the NSPCC Speak out, Stay Safe resources along with 'PANTS'. Resources for parents can be found here.
