School Dog

Luna is a Cavapoo (Cavalier Spaniel cross Poodle), owned by the headteacher, who underwent puppy training to help her become suitable for use in school. Research shows that pets in schools (and in particular dogs) can help children socially and emotionally as well as teaching them about caring. Luna currently attends a couple of days a week and stays mostly in the office and children are chosen to come and show her good work, read to her or to talk to her if they are worried about anything. There is a risk assessment in place and public liability insurance as well as up-to-date vet treatments and regular health check-ups. She is a calm and friendly dog and loves coming in to school (especially helping by clearing up food dropped after lunchtime and chasing cats away from the playground!).
