Sparkwell All Saints Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We follow all guidance in the document Keeping Children Safe in Education and all staff, regular volunteers and Trustees have full DBS checks as well as level 2 safeguarding training.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding Policy which can be viewed in the policies section of our website.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with the parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare. We work closely with the Devon Children Safeguarding Boards and Plymouth Safeguarding Board to ensure our children are safe from abuse, harm or child sexual exploitation. We are an Operation Encompass School that supports children who have experienced domestic abuse.

Our senior designated teacher with responsibility for safeguarding in school is Tom Cole and the deputy is Jen Sparkes. There is also a designated lead in the Link Academy Trust. You may speak to us if you have any concerns about your own, or another, child.

All staff have received appropriate training and induction so that they understand their roles and responsibilities and are confident about carrying them out. Staff, pupils, parents and governors feel secure that they can raise any issues or concerns about the safety or welfare of children and know that they will be listened to and taken seriously. This is achieved by maintaining an ethos of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. At our school we are not afraid to challenge each other to keep our children safe.

We all have a safeguarding responsibility and have a duty to refer any safeguarding issues to external agencies that need to be involved. We operate with the knowledge that 'it could happen here'.

If you want to know more about how to keep your child safe online a great site to visit is: https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/ and there are useful videos by CEOP here. Visit here to see some really useful one minute guides for parents.

Reporting to Social Services

If you have a concern about a child's safety, anyone can report this. If the child lives within Devon contact details can be found here. If the child lives within Plymouth the details are here.

Anyone can also find advice and support, including how to refer a concern at the NSPCC website. The website is here.

We are signed up to Project Encompass. This scheme has been designed to provide early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that might have an impact on a child that attends their school. The safeguarding lead will receive a call or an email from the police to say they attended a call where a pupil was present, where possible on the next working day.
We use the NSPCC Speak out, Stay Safe resources along with 'PANTS'. Resources for parents can be found here.
